Urinary incontinence is an unintentional leakage of urine and can have many different causes and varies in degrees of severity.
There are four main types of urinary incontinence: stress urinary incontinence, urge urinary incontinence, overflow urinary incontinence, and functional urinary incontinence. Despite the cause, the effect of urinary incontinence can dramatically decrease quality of your life causing embarrassment, lowering self-esteem and can lead to loneliness. (1)
Urinary incontinence affects up to 13% of Australian men (2) and the number is on the rise estimating that by 2030 the number of people (aged 15 years and above) with urinary incontinence will rise to 5.6 million. (2)
As a result of social stigma associated with the urinary incontinence 70% Australians don’t speak about their problem or look for medical advice. (3)
