Wound Hygiene Stage 4
Cleansing and moistening of wounds and burns. For the prevention of biofilm.
After the wound bed and periwound skin have been cleansed, the wound bed has been debrided and the wound edges refashioned, there is a window of opportunity in which to address my residual biofilm that might be present and prevent its re-formation. To maximise this, antimicrobial dressings can be used, when indicated following a holistic assessment.
After the use of Prontosan® Wound Irrigation Solution, the use of Prontosan® Wound Gel/Gel X act as an effective barrier to reduce colonisation and to decontaminate the wound bed between dressing changes.
While necrotic tissue and slough can be optimally removed by Prontosan Wound Irrigation Solution, it is also necessary to remove heavy encrustations by keeping the wound moist for a longer period of time. This can be achieving by simply applying Prontosan Wound Gel/Gel X with a secondary dressing.
