Having an ileostomy
Your ileostomy is a surgical opening on the surface of your abdomen created from your small intestine. You will possibly need to use a drainable stoma bag to collect the stool and have the option of draining it. Over time, you will likely learn how to take care of your stoma on your own and how to make the best of your life with an ileostomy.
In the case of an ileostomy, the stool is mostly fluid or semi-formed, which is why a drainable ostomy bag may be beneficial. The often so-called ileostomy bag has a bottom outlet, which allows the bag to be emptied without replacing it. In many cases, after your surgery, you will be given a transparent drainable bag in order to help you to learn how to use your bag correctly. As you learn how to manage the stoma you will be shown opaque bags, which most people choose to use for more discretion. Some opaque bags have also a so-called inspection window to allow the visual control of both stoma and output.
Our solutions for people with ileostomy
All our Flexima® Roll' up ileostomy bags have a wide drainable outlet of 7 cm, which intends to enable an easier bag emptying and outlet cleaning. On our Flexima® ranges, an integrated Roll' up clamp is available to close the bag by folding the outlet and pressing the adhesive stripes together.
Drainable Roll' up bags
White tabs implemented on the Roll' up outlets of our Flexima® drainable bags help to open the outlet widely, for both emptying the bag and for cleaning the outlet.
Release the two self-fastening strips and unroll the sleeve towards the toilet bowl. Be careful, emptying will start right at this point. To fully open the outlet, apply slight pressure with your fingers on the guides (see picture).
Once the emptying is complete, expel, as much as possible, any matter still in the sleeve by pressing it lightly from top to bottom. Carefully clean its extremity avoiding the use of shedding cloths (see picture).
The Roll' up outlet has an integrated self-gripping soft clamp. Once the outlet of these ileostomy bags is closed, the bag will have the same compact shape as a closed colostomy bag. The edges of the outlet are soft for an increased wearing comfort of the ileostomy bag.
The extremity of the Roll' up outlet sleeve has to be folded or rolled up four times. To do this, start by folding the white tabs forwards, four times, and end by lifting the flap with the self-fastening strip to finally put it over the folded sleeve. To seal the outlet, make sure that the two self-fastening strips are aligned, facing each other and apply pressure on all their length to be securely closed.
Our answer to high-output stoma
People who suffer from high-output stoma often have poor quality of sleep and are not able to recover appropriately by night. Frequent bag changes decrease their quality of life. To help you, if you are concerned, we offer our different high-flow stoma bags in both one-piece and two-piece systems that can be connected to our distal collecting bag, the Flow Collector.
Our two-piece bags Flexima® Key Maxi and Flexima® 3S High Flow as well as the one-piece Flexima® High Flow bags have a specially designed large funnel-shaped outlet that can be connected to a distal collection bag.
The bag can be emptied by removing the cap and pointing the outlet towards the toilet bowl. Once the emptying is complete, you may clean the cap and close it again.
Our Flow Collector is a distal stool collecting bag with a 2 litre capacity measurable approximately with a printed scale. The outlet of the Flow Collector offers a large diameter of 20 mm. The closing cap is designed with notched tabs intended to facilite the grabbing and opening, even with wet fingers.
Both the high-flow outlet of our bags and the Flow Collector have been specifically designed to be connected easily together providing an answer to high output stoma.
Remember that it is important to close your filter during water immersion (showering, bathing, water sports...), by applying an adhesive patch on the filter. These patches are supplied in the stoma bags’ boxes. Remember also to remove the patch at the end of the immersion for the filter to start functioning again automatically.

In the case of a one-piece system, the wafer and the stoma bag are bounded together and must be changed together.
In the case of a two-piece system, the wafer and the bag are separated, before being attached together through a coupling system. The bag can be changed while the baseplate may remain in place for several days.
